Exhausts and shipping.

We are starting to add Lancia exhaust sections and systems to our online shop, however this poses problems when it comes to carriage charges.

Over recent years, parcel delivery and postal services has shifted from a weight only system to a weight & volume basis - Royal mail used to be just by weight and now there are letter rates, large letter rates, small parcels and medium parcels to choose from - all very confusing.    One limitation of this software platform that it is only uses weight when giving shipping options, and doesn't understand volume and how exhausts can nestle together to some extent, and only knowing weight and not size may lead to the system giving customers inappropriate and unachievable shipping options.

The majority of exhaust sections are physically too large to send through the regular postal service, even if some are within the weight limits, so most exhaust systems have to be shipped through the Fedex / DHL type of parcel network.   

Even then some apply a "long length" or "abnormal packaging" surcharge to an exhaust system, and the long length threshold varies between shipping companies.

When an order is placed with us, we will review the shipping option selected, decide if it is actually possible to use that service, and if necessary, adjust the order to a more appropriate option which may or may not have a price adjustment to pay or refund.      Alternatively, phone or email your order across and we will offer sensible options.

 

For overseas shipments where volume is penalised significantly more than weight is, we have sometimes cut long sections in half for example for welding back together upon arrival.  The package is still the roughly the same weight, but the volume may be reduced by a significant amount, especially if you are shipping a multi-part exhaust system and everything can nestle together a bit.   Sometimes the cost saving may significantly outweigh the inconvenience and expense of rejoining the exhaust again.     We give the various options beforehand.
