Most of the Beta and Montecarlo engines used a nut to retain the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft, and the nuts were a conventional RH thread.
However, later engines switched from a nut to a bolt, and the bolt was also a left hand thread (many people unwittingly damage the bolt assuming it to be a conventional RH thread).
Although we think all Montecarlos should have the nut rather than the bolt, there has been some cross fertilisation of spare parts over the years with people using a late Beta crank if their own was not recoverable.
